• Hosea

  A prophet whose marriage and children's names carried God's word to Israel, and a love that would not give Israel up. Hosea 1 to 3, 6, 11 and 14.

• Outsiders brought in

  A woman of Jericho, a Moabite, a Syrian general, a Greek mother, an Ethiopian official and a centurion of the Italian band. How people from outside Israel were welcomed in.

• Second chances

  Tables written again, a prophet sent a second time, a king humbled in chains, a helper Paul once refused, and a Mark he later called profitable. Second chances from Exodus to Philemon.

• Mary, the mother of Jesus

  Follow Mary from Gabriel's visit in Nazareth to the upper room in Jerusalem: a question, a song, a warning, a lost boy, a wedding, a cross and a prayer meeting.

• Mary Magdalene

  Healed in Galilee, watching at the cross, waiting through the sabbath and sent from the garden with news. Follow Mary Magdalene through the Gospels and stay with what they say of her.

• John and the disciple Jesus loved

  A fisherman nicknamed a son of thunder, and an unnamed disciple who leaned on Jesus at supper. John's Gospel never says whether they are one man. Read both and weigh it for yourself.

• Nicodemus

  A Pharisee and ruler who came to Jesus by night. Follow his three appearances in John, and the old story from Numbers that Jesus sent him back to.

• Zacchaeus and the tax collectors

  Levi at his tax booth, a publican praying from afar off in the temple and a rich man up a tree: people many despised, and the teacher who ate with them.

• Christmas at the manger

  Joseph, Mary, the shepherds, Simeon, Anna, the wise men and Herod: the people around the birth of Jesus, with Luke's telling and Matthew's side by side.

• Easter morning

  Who saw him first, and who saw him after? The women at the tomb, Mary Magdalene, Peter, two travellers to Emmaus, Thomas, seven disciples by the lake and the list Paul passed on.

• Barnabas the encourager

  A Levite from Cyprus who sold a field, vouched for a feared convert and went to Tarsus to find him. Follow Barnabas through Acts and Paul's letters, failures included.

• Priscilla and Aquila

  Tentmakers forced out of Rome, they took Paul into their home at Corinth, taught Apollos at Ephesus and hosted a church in their house. Follow a working couple through Acts and Paul's letters.

• Stephen and Philip

  Two of the seven chosen to serve at tables. Stephen's speech to the council cost him his life. Philip carried the message to Samaria and to an Ethiopian official on a desert road.

• Timothy

  Taught the Scriptures from childhood, chosen by Paul at Lystra and sent where Paul could not go. Follow Timothy through Acts, Paul's letters and the letters written to him.

• Pentecost

  From the harvest feast in Leviticus to wind and fire in Jerusalem. Wait with the eleven, Mary and Matthias, then hear Peter explain the day with Joel and the Psalms.
