Opening stop: Here am I; send me, Isaiah 6:8
Isaiah dates this vision to the year King Uzziah died (Isaiah 6:1). That king had ended his days a leper, cut off from the house of the Lord for burning incense there (2 Chronicles 26:16-21). The message Isaiah is given is hard: the people will listen and not understand. Jesus applies these lines to the crowds who heard his parables (Matthew 13:14-15). Acts closes with Paul quoting them to the Jewish leaders in Rome (Acts 28:25-27).
Also I heard the voice of the Lord, saying, Whom shall I send, and who will go for us? Then said I, Here am I; send me.
King James Version
The speaker in this vision hears the Lord ask who will go and responds by offering to be sent. The response follows a scene in which his unclean lips are touched and his sin is declared purged. The next instruction is difficult: it describes a people who hear without understanding. Read the response alongside the commission that follows.
