Opening stop: Get thee out, Genesis 12:1
Abram's father Terah had already set out from Ur for Canaan and stopped short at Haran (Genesis 11:31). In Acts, Stephen says the call came in Mesopotamia, before Abraham dwelt in Charran (Acts 7:2-4). The promise is a great nation, made to a man of seventy-five whose wife was barren (Genesis 11:30). Abram's whole reply is in verse 4. He says nothing, and goes.
Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country, and from thy kindred, and from thy father’s house, unto a land that I will shew thee:

The Lord addresses Abram and tells him to leave his country, relatives and father's household for a land God will show him. The following promises connect this departure with blessing for others. Abram then travels from Haran with Sarai and Lot. The passage is the account of a particular call to Abram; it does not itself instruct every reader to leave home.
