Opening stop: Unfeigned faith, 2 Timothy 1:2
The letter names Paul as its writer (2 Timothy 1:1), the Lord's prisoner (2 Timothy 1:8), with the time of his departure at hand (2 Timothy 4:6). Acts adds that Timothy's mother was a Jewess who believed and his father a Greek (Acts 16:1). Lois and Eunice are named nowhere else in the Bible. Later the letter says Timothy had known the holy scriptures from a child (2 Timothy 3:15). The King James uses unfeigned of faith again in 1 Timothy 1:5, and of love in 1 Peter 1:22.
To Timothy, my dearly beloved son: Grace, mercy, and peace, from God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord.

Paul recalls Timothy's sincere faith and urges him to stir up God's gift. Power, love and a sound mind lead into the call to share suffering for the gospel without shame. Paul connects that work with God's grace and the life made known through Christ. The chapter ends with people who turned away and Onesiphorus, who sought Paul in Rome. Its picture of courage joins faithful teaching to practical loyalty.
