Who Bezalel is

Bezalel, son of Uri and grandson of Hur from Judah, is named by the Lord for the sanctuary work. The account attributes his wisdom, understanding and skill to God's spirit and describes work in metals, stones and wood. He and Oholiab are also equipped to teach. Moses calls them with other willing skilled workers, who receive the people's contributions. Bezalel is explicitly named as the maker of the ark, and the material account credits him with carrying out what the Lord commanded. First Chronicles repeats his family line. In Solomon's time, Second Chronicles identifies the brass altar at Gibeon as the one Bezalel had made; it does not place Bezalel himself in that later scene.

This Bezalel is identified by Uri, Hur and Judah, keeping his profile tied to the named craftsman. King James spells the name Bezaleel; American Standard uses Bezalel. His commission includes design and teaching as well as execution, but the text gives no age, prior workshop or training history. Other skilled workers are explicitly included, so the summary credit for the whole undertaking should not erase their work. The later altar reference preserves his name through an object attributed to him, without stating how long he lived.
