Gad

Gad is a son of Jacob born to Zilpah, Leah's maid. Leah gives him his name: the KJV renders her words as a troop coming, the ASV as fortunate, and the BBE as things going well for her. These are Leah's words at his birth. Genesis lists seven sons of Gad: Ziphion, Haggi, Shuni, Ezbon, Eri, Arodi and Areli. Numbers lists families under Zephon, Ozni and Arod alongside the other four names, without explaining the differences. Exodus includes Gad among Jacob's family who came to Egypt.
