After the Lord thundered against the Philistines near Mizpeh, Samuel set up a stone between Mizpeh and Shen and named it, saying "Hitherto hath the Lord helped us". Years before, Israel had camped by a place of the same name and lost the ark. The dot follows the stone near Mizpeh.
